Dear Reader,
The holiday season is officially upon us! I don't know about you, but I have so much to be thankful for, including the work of the wonderful environmental partners we are proud to support through our commitment to 1% for the Planet. These organizations are doing the crucial work needed to ensure a viable future for the planet and the coming generations. Let's use this Giving Tuesday to consider supporting an organization that most aligns with all
of our values.
I'm also thankful for your accompanying us on our journey to build bridges toward a more unified world. I'm beyond excited for what is to come, and you'll have the best seat in the house!
Thank you for being a part of our story. I'm wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season and I'll see you in 2025!

NEW CERTIFIED B CORPORATION ALERT!
|
Texas has a new Certified B Corporation—Restaurant Beatrice in Dallas! You don't see many full-service restaurants in the Network, so this one hits different. Getting initial Certification wasn't easy. In fact, it was a multiyear endeavor. We know personally because the team at Beatrice trusted us to support them when Certification seemed unattainable. Beatrice has quite the story behind what we now celebrate as a significant victory—a victory not only for Beatrice but for what we see as an inspirational
invocation of something much larger than ourselves in the restaurant industry. As a company whose mission is partly dedicated to helping other companies become Certified B Corporations, we couldn't be prouder to see Beatrice succeed and we are eternally grateful that they gave us a chance to contribute to their story. May Restaurant Beatrice live long in the B Global Network!

Update on Companies with Clients in Controversial and Ineligible Industries
|
Many companies in the Certification process this year have been paused indefinitely while B Lab updated its approach to companies with clients in controversial industries. In the past, B Lab only gauged potential negative operational impact from the standpoint of companies operating directly in industries flagged as controversial. B Lab then expanded its approach to include potential negative impact coming from serving direct clients that operate in
these flagged industries. This update came as a surprise to many companies who suddenly found their client portfolios coming under strict scrutiny.
After many months of waiting, B Lab has now defined its approach. The updated guidance will now allow companies to advance in their Certification processes accordingly.
|
|
|
|
This update is significant for the B Global Network and important for all to understand thoroughly.
In episode 14 of Beyond the B, podcast host Ryan Honeyman provides his take on what this update means for companies seeking Certification.

Get Organized for Recertification!
|
2025 is quickly approaching! As you may know, B Lab U.S. & Canada now requires all companies in the United States and Canada with a Recertification date of January 1, 2025 or later to submit their B Impact Assessments for Recertification six months early. For some, it may mean preparing and organizing much sooner than they expected. Don't put it off too long as that date is right around the corner!
You now have a plethora of resources at your disposal, including a newly released Resource Library, a one-stop shop with over 120 resources available to help you get things going.
Still, getting started on Recertification can be a lot. Not sure where to get started? Our Founder and Executive Director Jeffrey D. Stewart provides some instructions on getting set up in the B Impact Assessment.

We'll be happy to discuss things further if you are in need of additional guidance! Let's get you on track for the New Year!

Partnerships with a Purpose: People and Planet
|
1% for the Planet is a global organization that exists to ensure our planet and future generations thrive. By connecting businesses and environmental partners around the globe, the 1% community harnesses the power of collective action by using partnerships and strategic giving to address today’s most pressing environmental challenges.
The core of 1% for the Planet is membership. Every 1% for the Planet Business Member is giving 1% of all sales, not profits, back to a vetted network of environmental partners. This global network of partners addresses a range of environmental challenges in at least one of four key impact areas:
- Rights to Nature
- Just Economies
- Conservation and Restoration
- Resilient Communities
When you commit to giving 1% of revenue back to environmental causes, you join a community dedicated to building a better future and rejecting business as usual. 1% for the Planet Business Members are raising the bar for what it means to do business on our planet, and taking responsibility for their impact by forging meaningful partnerships and causing a ripple effect of impact by inspiring more businesses to follow their lead.
